The Chinese grocer will open a new grocery store on Michigan’s west side next year, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the Michigan Department of Agriculture.
The store will be located at the site of the old China Grocery store at 8th Avenue and Michigan Avenue in Detroit, the department said.
“This will be a convenient, convenient store for people from Michigan who don’t have access to grocery stores in other parts of the state,” Michael Gee, assistant director of public affairs at the department, told Al Jazeera.
“We’re excited to open this new grocery outlet in Michigan, which will bring some much needed economic development to the area,” he added.
“The location in Detroit is a great addition to the community,” Michael Smith, executive director of the China Grocer Association of Michigan, told the news agency.
“This will bring jobs and commerce to the region.”
The new grocery shop is expected to open in 2019.
